Which model of Roomba is in Breaking Bad

Preamble

Thirty-Eight Snub, S04E02, of Breaking Bad features a Roomba in Jessie’s house, at the party. Which model is it?

It seems to be remote controlled, so maybe it was hacked.

Notes

It must be a model that was available before July 24, 2011, so probably a third generation model. although it could also be a 770 or 780 as these were released in 2011, but it is unlikely.

It has an hour button

A shot of it broken (after the wasted guy took to it with a screwdriver),

can be seen in the final scene of S04E02:

It should be noted that in the final scene the Roomba is all black, whereas during the party it was black with a white trim, so maybe two Roombas were used? Maybe the white was reflection from the glossy finish, although, that seems unlikely. However, it could be that the Roomba in the final scene is the same as that which was at the party, but has had the white facia plate removed. If you look carefully, this seems to be the case.

The Roomba shown in the final scene is possibly a 570, 580 or similar, given the hour button, as these models are all black.

The third generation 560/562/564 is black with a white trim.

However, so does the (fourth generation) 650

But the 650 was released in 2012, and so could not have been in the episode that was aired in 2011.

In Madrigal, S05E02 at 9:24, yet another Roomba is shown, this time with an orange or red facia/trim

It also seems to be dappled/pitted textured surface:

This could be the Roomba 650 Orange Kimono Edition.

On the other hand the colour doesn’t quite match, and so that it could be that it is the same 560/562/564 model, that had its removed white facia plate replaced with a red facia plate

Addition info

From Better Call Saul needed 3D printing and an Arduino to arm Mike Ehrmantraut

Delap’s mind goes toward a bit of Roomba-hacking, also on Breaking Bad. “There was a party scene at [Jesse] Pinkman’s house with the Roomba, and originally I was steering that with my phone—we Bluetooth’ed that with an interface,” he says. “But it was a little iffy; it’d go out at times and I almost vacuumed up a girl’s hair who was passed out on the floor. So it ends up that was actually me pushing the Roomba—I’d go forward, back up. I had to mentally prepare for the role of Roomba, and it looks great.

Conclusion

It would seem that the Roomba during the party is a 560/562/564, whereas the Roomba in the final scene could be a 570 or 580, although it seems more likely to be the same 560/562/564 with the white facia removed.

The Roomba in S05E02 seems to be the same 560/562/564 with a red replacement facia having been fitted.

This is the end, my friend
